308 Assignment Play (QT H.264 0.77mb)

To make the shot more interesting I added two trees to have something to interact with. I like the kind of second level … while he’s talking about a tree he leans against one. Besides this I pushed the poses and added some more breakdowns.

307 Assignment Play (QT H.264 0.71mb)

WOW … it’s been a while since I animated my last dialog shot ;). After searching the web for almost four days to find a nice piece of dialog I finally found three nice audio clips (I recommend moviewavs.com). The next step was the thoughtful planing of the shot which means sketching and video reference. After getting my e-critique I did the first blocking pass.

303 Assignment Play (QT H.264 0.51mb)

I still have to polish soooooo much ;). But I think it’s working a lot better now. The paper grabbing of the 302 version was to disrespectful so I changed it. Hope you like it.

302 Assignment Play (QT H.264 0.59mb)

I changed my idea, because the one with the soup was more a reaction than a change of an emotion. So I did some new sketches and finally went with #8. This is the first time I tried the Copied Pairs method. I’m not sure if i like it ;). My mentor Michelle always works with Copied Pairs, therefore she advised us to give it a try.

A new term hast started and here is my first assignment. This time I got Michelle Meeker as mentor. A few fellow students from AM told me that she is pretty tough in here e-critiques and it’s not easy to get good marks. Let’s see if she likes my ideas ;).

About the assigment. First i decided to go with the soup idea, but after a Student Q&A meeting (Flash meeting) I decided to go with the Loo idea, which is more unique and gives me some more room for the acting.

Hamburg Animation Award 2007

Last Thursday (28th June) WANTED won the 3rd place at the Hamburg Animation Award 2007. Unfortunately I haven’t any photos of the ceremony yet, but I’ll post them as soon as I got some.

EDIT: Thanks a lot to Marit Brademann, who send me this two photos. The first one shows all the winner and on the second you see Andreas Deja delivering his speech about animation.

Progress Reel Play (QT Sorenson3 9.49mb)
Another Term is over, and it was a blast again … I want to thank my mentor Randy (Randall Cook) and everyone else who helped me improving my shots, especially Goro gave me a lot of great input.

211 Assignment Play (QT H.264 0.75mb)
DONE … this time it was pretty hard to finish the animation in time. Especially the part when he bounces back from the wall into the safe was pretty hard, I animated about 5-7 different versions … but it’s done now –> one week vacation now Yeehaw ;).

210 Assignment Play Tutorial (QT S3 17.8mb) - Download Script

Last week I had the problem that my shot cam was faaaaaaaaar faaaaaaaaaaar away from my character but I didn’t want to change my cam position. Therefore I created a small Zoom Tool with which you can zoom into your scene without changing any attributes like Focal Length Position or Rotation. To see how it works and how to install it I have made a small video. If you are more advanced with the scripting stuff just take a look into the .mel file where you will find a small instruction.

-
The interface gets parented directly under your persp cam, if you are using a different camera to navigate you have to re-parent it. I have added an new attribute after recording the video which you will find when you select the zoom controller called multiply. This attribute multiplies the zoom level and if you want to zoom out for some reason put it to a negative value like -1 but never to 0.

-

I only tested it on Maya 8.5 and 8.0 I’m not sure if it will work on lower version but I hope so ;)

210 Assignment Play (QT H.264 1.23mb)
First Spline Pass … Because my fellow AM combatants didn’t like the blue I tried to find an even uglier colour to punish them for there brashness ;). Especially Randy (my Mentor) get a red skin tone during the critique … he wasn’t pretty happy about it :D. Besides the colour stuff I’m not pretty happy with this piece, because I hadn’t much time to work on it, the final assignment will be a lot better … I hope :).

209 Assigment Play (QT H.264 0.43mb)
Second Blocking Pass … Yeah I know the blue is sooooooooooo ugly ;) I just used it to be able to concentrate more on the animation (silhouette). In the final version I will change the color an the walls get textured :)

207 Animation Play (QT H.264 0.27mb)
Sorry for being so lazy in updating my blog :( … I’ll get better on this. So here is my latest masterpiece … HeHe. This time I want to have a different style and experiment a bit with the lighting and enabled motionblur, but it takes sooo long to render it :(.

207 Video Reference Play (QT H.264 1.85mb)

I also had to plan the next assignment. My preferred version is the one with the safe for which i crated the video reference. Hope you like it.
